BACKUP & DISASTER RECOVERY SOLUTIONS

Backup and Disaster Recovery Solutions

From small scale operations to larger, more complex demands, PCSOS has an array of solutions to fit your needs:

Localised solutions –NAS and RAID arrays

For non-mission critical data, PCSOS offers Network Attached Storage Devices with scalable sizing uptake based on the amount of data demands. We also implement RAID storage on servers which in laymen speak simply means a cluster of storage devices designed to offer more resiliencies in the event of a failure of one of the devices.

For the more demanding user and more mission critical data, we offer Hybrid Cloud technology to facilitate even greater resiliency.

Offsite solutions – Hybrid Cloud Overview

Hybrid Cloud Technology improves redundancy and allows users greater protection of their systems and data. Hybrid Cloud combines the advantages of local backup and the security of the cloud to affect a very robust system of securing data.

Data stored on workstations and servers are transmitted to the NAS which serves as a point of data consolidation and staging environment whereby the consolidated data is then sent across offsite to the AWS cloud.

Through scheduling, off-site data transfers can be conducted when bandwidth is least used eg during after office hours and weekends.

A typical backup process as illustrated above harnessing the power of Hybrid cloud technology.

AWS Storage Solutions

As part of PCSOS’s enterprise data storage and disaster recovery solution, PCSOS leverages on Amazons Cloud’s enterprise grade infrastructure as a cornerstone that underpins our offsite storage solutions:

(Amazon S3) provides a highly durable storage infrastructure designed for mission-critical and primary data storage. Objects are redundantly stored on multiple devices across multiple facilities within a region, designed to provide a durability of 99.999999999%.

Amazon Glacier provides extremely low -cost storage for data archiving and backup. Objects (or archives, as they are known in Amazon Glacier) are optimized for infrequent access, for which retrieval times of several hours are adequate. Amazon Glacier is designed for the same durability as Amazon S3.

An added benefit of using Amazon is Amazon’s regional data centre located in Singapore. The close proximity makes it ideal for data transfer and latency. For inter-regional customers, Amazon also offers other regional hubs for data storage.

How do I know what solution is best for me?

Eventual solution determination is made by combining two main considerations, namely RTO and RPO, coupled with your other ancillary considerations eg cost & budget.

RTO

– Recovery Time Objective. The time it takes after a disruption to restore a business process to its service level, as defined by the operational level agreement (OLA). For example, if a disaster occurs at 12:00 PM (noon) and the RTO is eight hours, the Disaster Recovery process should restore the business process to the acceptable service level by 8:00 PM.

RPO

– Recovery point objective. The acceptable amount of data loss measured in time. For example, If a disaster occurs at 12:00 PM (noon) and the RPO is one hour, the system should recover all data that was in the system before 11:00 AM. Data loss will span only one hour, between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon).

During our initial consultation, PCSOS will discuss and walk you through the various options available. After assessing what your requirements are, we will then recommend an appropriate solution.
